The Susan Kinder Haake Scholarship Fund became an endowment fund at the UCLA School of Dentistry in 2014 through the remarkable generosity of her students, colleagues, friends and family. We look forward to announcing the first awardee of the Susan Kinder Haake Scholarship Fund in the years to come as funds begin to flow from the endowment. Thanks to the outpouring of support from people like you, our shared dream of providing a lasting legacy for Dr. Haake's life and career will soon become a reality.
Dr. Haake's work spanned the worlds of basic microbiology and clinical periodontology, and led to major discoveries in the role of bacteria in periodontal disease. Even more importantly, she had an extraordinary ability to connect with students and inspire them to bridge the gap between the laboratory bench and the dental chair. It is therefore altogether fitting that the Susan Kinder Haake Scholarship Fund was established to encourage dental students to follow in her footsteps and apply the power of basic research to solving our most pressing clinical problems.
